Rebbe Menachem Mendel of Rimanov (1745-1815) was one of the most influential Chasidic Masters of his time, spreading the teachings of Chassidus throughout Poland. He was introduced to Chassidus at the age of eleven and he quickly became a student of Rav Shmelke of Nikolsburg (Nickels-burg). Even before he became a student of Rav Shmelke he was known to be a scholar with a proficient understanding of the Talmud and it’s commentaries. Under his teachers guidance he became an ardent Chasid. His successor, Rebbe Tzvi Hirsch of Rimanov was inseparable from him. Rebbe Menachem Mendel said that the only reason he was put on this Earth was solely to develop his successor Rebbe Tzvi Hirsch. Rebbe Menachem Mendel deeply cared for the livelihood of each person he encountered and constantly taught lessons regarding the blessings we all receive from Heaven, his main lesson was a call to action, often saying that “Although you have faith, all the faith in the world won’t help you if you don’t work conscientiously”. His teachings are said to not only affect us here on Earth but to also affect the Judgments in the Heavenly courts. Rebbe Menachem Mendel’s uplifting nature and zest is the inspiration for this tasty herring.
